The silver lining during lockdown
COVID-19 has been a proper punch in the neck.
I thought I was ‘Mr Resilient’ because I’d ridden out the 2007 recession. That one took a lot of businesses under but for so many this lockdown has been paralysing.
I see myself as a problem-solver but when you are confined to your home, sometimes there’s just no way to work around the problem. I’m lucky that I’m able to largely carry on with the clients I work for but I had a genuine concern over being able to remain creative. I feared I would become grumpy, agitated and start to spiral.
The impact on business is one thing, but the sudden change in lifestyle is another. As most of you know I am a cycling obsessive and not being able to ride in Cannock Chase, The Peak District or trail centres feels a bit like my wings have been clipped.
Riding is also a great way for me to switch off, so I was concerned that if I just had 4 walls to stare at, my work would start to suffer too.
And so I decided to do something about it.
I started pouring over local OS maps trying to find routes and paths close to home but away from people.
The result was something that blew me away. One bridleway ran into another and another. Before I knew it, I was discovering a whole new world on my doorstep.
The result – a healthier, happier, fitter and more creative human.
When all this is over and we look back and remember the awful impact Coronavirus had on the world. But I’m going to try really hard to remember it was this lockdown that allowed me to discover a whole new world on my doorstep.
